Two

Oscar is two.

He's been really excited about his birthday. We introduced the concept with John's birthday, a couple weeks ago, and we've been working on getting him excited about it ever since. The other morning, he sprang out of bed and shouted "Birthday coming!" Another time, he gave that answer to someone who asked him how old he was. Upon seeing a store display of wrapped gifts, he bellowed "Presents!"

Last night, I baked blueberry muffins to take in to daycare, for his class and teachers, and they gave him a paper birthday hat. After school, Patrick and Lizzy came over, and we all had dinner with Oscar instead of waiting until he'd gone to bed like we usually do. Then we had cake and presents (including this crazy fancy fire engine they got for him). He had such a good time. On Saturday, we'll have a bigger birthday party -- still almost all adults -- up at Sue and John's. Maybe next year we'll invite his classmates.
